SEELEY BOOTH: WISE CRACKING FBI AGENT AND DARK WARRIOR
Television: “Bones” (Fox Network, Premiered 9/05)
SPECIAL AGENT SEELEY BOOTH (David Boreanaz) is a good cop, a devote Catholic whose belief system often clashes with his partner’s logical and naive view of the world through a microscope. Worldly and a former Army sniper, Booth thrashes through that part of his dark past with the strength of a soft-hearted commando.
THE LOOK:
Booth is played by actor David Boreanaz who is 6’1, with brown hair and eyes. He’s best known for his portrayal of a dark vampire in Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
STATS:
Special Agent Seeley Booth works for the FBI. In the series, he brings evidence to the forensics team to investigate, or turns some of their accidental findings into an official investigation. A former military sniper, Booth has a 4 year old boy whom he cares deeply for , but with whom he only gets occasional visits.
LEADING LADY:
DR. TEMPERANCE BRENNAN (Emily Deschanel) “BONES”, scientist.
Booth is both funny and sensitive as a moral compass to Bones’s cold genius, as he slowly breaks down her rigid exterior. They clash most often as he works to make her understand how life works outside the controlled environment of the Medico-Legal Lab. Booth often refers to the scientist’s friends as “squints.” He’s had a couple of relationships, but none that last, or have the quality of sparks his friendship with Bones ignites.
Greatest Weakness:
His greatest weakness is his son, Parker (born out of wedlock), and Bones, his partner, peer and best-friend. As much as Booth tries to deny his feelings for Bones, they show through in his ability to sense when she’s in trouble, or just needs his shoulder. When dealing with her fugitive father and jail bird brother in the last episode of this season, Booth appears outside the prison fence, where Bone is spending Christmas with her father and brother. Booth has brought a Christmas tree with lights running off the battery of his car, so Bones will have some joy while spending it with her incarcerated family.
Memorable quotes:
Special Agent Seeley Booth: When the FBI gets stuck we call in the squints.
Dr. Temperance Brennan: Squints?
Special Agent Seeley Booth: You know, you squint at things.
Dr. Temperance Brennan: Oh, you mean people with high IQ’s and basic reasoning skill?
Special Agent Seeley Booth: Yeah.
Zack Addy: Sometime when you’re not busy, I wonder if I could ask you a few questions about sexual positions.
Special Agent Seeley Booth: If you even try, I will take out my gun and shoot you between the eyes.
Dr. Temperance Brennan: [after catching the head that fell from the tree] I am going to need an evidence bag.
Special Agent Seeley Booth: Heads up!
Dr. Temperance Brennan: [the body falls from the tree] I am going to need a bigger bag.
BOTTOM LINE:
This is a strong, resourceful, and kind-hearted hero, who struggles with the often ugly side of FBI work.
QUESTION OF THE DAY:
Where does Seeley’s sex appeal really come from? It goes beyond his good looks. What do you think?
