Clark Kent, by Heather Johnson

Clark Kent
It should be noted that I chose Clark Kent as a hero, rather than his alter ego Superman. After all, it is his tireless integrity that makes Superman tower over most comic book heroes. Therefore, Clark Kent — the human side of Superman — deserves much of the credit.
Stats:
Clark Joseph Kent, award-winning reporter for Metropolis’ Daily Planet, towers at six foot, three inches tall. He is of muscular build and weighs over 200 pounds, though this physique is usually obscured by his professional attire. He is known for being a compassionate defender of the downtrodden with his work at the Daily Planet.
Kent was reared in Smallville, Kansas (though born far away from the Midwest) by his adopted parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent. He was an exceptional student and a well-liked citizen of the small town. As a star reporter of the Daily Planet, Clark Kent applies his hometown values when making split-second decisions.
The Look:
Clark Kent has trademark glasses that he is never seen without. He is usually dressed in a conservative suit and tie and occasionally wears a fedora. Everything about Clark Kent’s look is that of an old-fashioned, unassuming gentleman.
Leading Lady:
Kent’s leading lady is Lois Lane, former Daily Planet rival and now wife. He has had major romantic entanglements in the past, such as childhood sweetheart Lana Lang. Kent was also briefly engaged to Lori Lemaris in college, though the relationship turned south when it was revealed that Lori was using her wheelchair to conceal the fact that she is a mermaid (natch).
Bottom Line:
Clark Kent is a dependable man of great integrity. He has shown bravery on the job as a respected news reporter and is known for exposing corruption throughout the city of Metropolis. Plus, he always sends money home to his parents who still reside in the sleepy town of Smallville.
Question of the Day:
What makes Superman most heroic? Is it his humanity (the Clark Kent persona) or his brawn?

I think what makes Clark so heroic is the fact that he really does care. He is always on the look out for those who are being abused by a bully. As Clark, Superman is undercover, looking like something of a none essential nerd, with a huge heart. Even under the suit and fedora, its hard to hide his sex appeal, but he does try with those glasses. Once they come off the expression changes. He carries with him his midwest farm boy charm and morals, which I find very appealing.
Ever since his birth in the comic book world, Clark has evolved through the ages, taking on all the baddies of the world, from Nazis to drug dealers. We can always count on Clark, aka Superman to save the day.

It’s the core of steel underneath the ordinary man facade. The knowledge that most people wouldn’t expect Clark to be more than the nerdy, good-old-boy, but that he always does the right thing, in crisis or not. It’s only that saving the world is more noticeable than sending checks back home. But he does the latter because he cares, not for the glory.

His humanity, absolutely! A man [or woman] can’t be a hero without humanity. Thanks so much for being a guest on Chasing Heroes, Heather!
