Magicians or Charmers

That rascally Charmer always keeps a girl guessing. Sexy, appealing, charismatic–the man is irresistible. But will he be there for the long haul? That, ladies, is questionable. He skates through life as if it’s a party and he’s the star attraction. The Charmer has some amazing qualities. They include:

- his rico suave persona. He’s persuasive and smooth and can make a person believe the sky is green, despite evidence to the contrary.

- his sparkling wit. He makes you smile and laugh and feel good. He can definitely make the most of a bad situation.

- his cunning creativity, also known as the ‘MacGyver Factor’. But while MacGyver can solve any problem, the Charmer can bring happiness where ever he is, no matter what’s going on around him. He’s the Pide Piper of the party circuit.

Of course, the Charmer has some flaws, too. They are:

- his general tendency to be irresponsible. If it’s not a party (and if it involves work), he’s unlikely to stick around, or even show up, despite his promise to the contrary.

- his manipulative nature. That rico suave nature that can serve him so well can leave a wake of hurt behind him. Watch out because he’s out for his own pleasure, not the pleasure of those around him.

- his emotional detachment. What does the Charmer really feel? One girl’s guess is as good as the next. And they’re probably both wrong.

Charmers abound. Check out these rascals.

Leo DiCaprio, playing Jack Dawson in Titanic, charmed his way onto a doomed ocean liner and into Kate Winslet’s heart. Not bad for a day’s work.

Christian Troy (played by Julian McMahon) in FX’s Nip Tuck. Christian is a wickedly seductive plastic surgeon who can (and does) charm the pants off almost every woman he meets.

♥♥Corey Haraden, (the hero in Barbara Delinsky’s “Cardinal Rules” (HQN Temptation 7/87)) “wasn’t nicknamed ‘the cardinal’ for his red hair alone.” He’s known for “winging fast and free,” and although he’s been called a charmer, a devil, and a cad, he’s never been called a romantic. But that soon changes when he meets the heroine, Corrine Fremont
