A Confession from Guest Blogger Candace Haven
Welcome our guest blogger, Candace Haven.

Thank you for having me, and doing this for me on my release date of The Demon King and I.
I’m going to confess something to you guys that I haven’t told anyone else. (At least I don’t think I have, I’m very forgetful. Smile). The idea for the hero in “The Demon King and I” came from my editor at Berkley.
I was talking to her on the phone one day about different ideas I had for books. I told her about this demon slayer, Gillian, who was a Guardian Key and protected our world from other worlds. By day she is a high-powered, business-woman, and by night she kicks demon butt.
My editor said I should make her love interest a demon, as that would mean instant tension. She was right, and Arath The Demon King was born. In my head he’s a mixture of Clive Owen in “Sin City” and Gerard Butler in “300.” He’s the first demon king to actually have a conscience, and he’s a good ruler. He quickly becomes a favorite among his people. But he’s still a demon and can get “red and flamey” without much provocation.
Gillian’s never seen a being quite like him, and when she finds herself attracted, she’s appalled. What I love about Arath is that as the book goes on you learn more about him and you discover that there is so much more than Gillian could have imagined. He’s powerful, strong and hard-headed. But he’s also loyal and sometimes funny.
I have to tell you that by the end of the book, I fell for him too. So who could blame poor Gillian. I like my guys a little rough around the edges and Arath most definitely fits that bill.
Question of the Day: So how do you like your heroes, rough around the edges with the possiblity of getting all flamey? Or more refined?
From the commnets a name will be drawn for a autographed copy of The Demon King and I. Also over at www.candacehaven.com, you’ll find she is giving away more then $500.00 in prizes…Go take a look…

Definitely rough around the edges! It makes them so much more fun. I think that’s why the new James Bond is so appealing. He’s refined–sort of–but really, underneath it all, he’s pretty rough.
The book sounds awesome, Candace! Thanks for for visiting us at Chasing Heroes.

I guess I lean more towards the rough around the edges hero myself. Candace, this book sounds more interesting each time I hear about it! I have to read it!

Rough or smooth, I think it depends. The combination of Clive Owen and Gerard Butler is always a winner! I have to read this book!

Good morning everyone! Thanks so much for hanging out with me today. I totally agree about Daniel Craig as James Bond. He does it for me like no other.
The Demon King and I is out today and I’m so excited. You guys have to let me know what you think about it.
Do you have favorite fictional heroes? Are you more of a Mr. Darcy type? Or James Bond groupie? Or both. I’m a both.

I love the new James Bond, Daniel Craig.. For me he embodies all thing hero. He can be kind, gentle, but tough, cold, dark with a damaged past…With the new series, we’ll see him becoming even more damaged as time goes on, since with these movies their following the actual series of books more closely. James is my favorite.
But Mr. Darcey is mysterious…And that is very attractive…A lot of his personality is hidden behind his stiff exterior.
Great post, Candace, thanks for coming to our site.

I like my hero and rough and edgy, but I’m always open to smooth and classy. When I think of heros: John Wayne, Sean Connery, Gerard Butler, Clive Owen, Collin Farrell - I could go on….
I love all your books, you always make me giggle.
Thanks so much - I look forward to reading about the other sisters!

What a great storyline! I can’t wait to read this book. I love my heroes rough around the edges. Although, it is kinda cool to see a smooth, refined man lose his cool with the heroine.

Rough around the edges is lovely. Or smooth on the surface, but all roiling beneath. As long as they’re complicated. For me, there’s nothing worse than a “perfect” hero.

Oh, Daniel Craig does it for me too. When I was contemplating the question, his was the image stuck in my head.
I like my heroes to look somewhat polished on the outside, but all man on the inside. Yummy.
I bought the book this morning and now I’ll be in hiding to read it.
Candace thank you once again.

Complicated is such a good word because aren’t we all? I don’t like high maintenance men, but I don’t mind dark and broody as long as he has a sense of humor. Like Gena Showalters Lord of the Underworld dudes. Those guys are so dark and complicated but you just love them because when they decide they care they really go for it.

Ah, see I do love Mr. Darcy, though, but mostly when played by Colin Firth.

I’m lovin’ me some Colin Firth. Bridget Jones Diary too… Need I say more? He’s definitely not rough around the edges. Oh, and Love Actually. He was so fab in that.

Congrats on your new release! Your book sounds amazing Candace.
I definitely like men who are rough around the edges. No mamby-pamby men for me, lol. Eric from Charlaine Harris’s books or True Bood is my newest favorite rough around the edges character, sigh…
